Mr. Demetrius Lucas

Demetrius Lucas has been in the field of education for 22 years. During this time, Principal Lucas has

served in various capacities. In 2000, he began his career at J.C. Nalle ES in SE, Washington, DC as a

Kindergarten teacher. In SY 2000-2001, Principal Lucas transitioned to Stanton ES as a Kindergarten and

1st-grade teacher and remained at Stanton ES until 2006. In 2008, he began working for Prince George’s

County Public Schools at Turning Point Academy as a Kindergarten teacher and remained there until SY

2010. In 2010, he worked at KIPP DC: Promise Academy as a 1st Grade Math teacher and remained there

until 2013. From 2013-2014, Principal Lucas worked at Community Academy as a Kindergarten teacher.

From 2014-2015, he was a 1st grade English teacher at Mundo Verde Public Charter School. Principal

Lucas returned to his roots in DCPS in 2015 as an Instructional Coach at Plummer ES. In 2016, he was

promoted to Assistant Principal at Plummer ES and held that position from 2016-2021. In 2021, Principal

Lucas became the Principal of Hendley ES. Principal Lucas enjoys working with students, teachers, and

families. He is a proponent of ensuring all students receive a high-quality educational experience.

Principal Lucas’ educational philosophy is “All students can learn regardless of the current situation”.
